Crops for energy
The farm grows wheat, barley, maize and grass as energy crops to fuel an anaerobic digester. These crops provide a sustainable source of biomass, which is converted into biogas. Digestate a nutrient-rich by-product which acts as a natural fertiliser, reducing our need for artificial inputs and helping to improve our soil’s health and vitality.
Biomass & Solar Energy
We operate a 840 kW biomass woodchip boiler powered by locally-sourced timber, delivering renewable heating throughout the site and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. In addition to this, solar photovoltaic panels generate clean electricity from sunlight, further cutting carbon emissions. Together, these systems play a key role in the farm’s dedication to sustainable, low-impact energy.
Forward-thinking farming
It’s not possible or sustainable to continuously grow food crops without adding back organic matter, as the soil will gradually lose its nutrients. Anaerobic Digestor (AD) feedstock crops are grown as part of a crop rotation cycle with natural digestate fertiliser, helping to replenish organic matter and improve the soil.
